Lore Guide for HL2RP Empty Lore Guide for HL2RP

2017, AEGIS-IV LABOR CAMP. ALSO KNOWN AS "THE DROP", "SODOM", AND "DETROIT MK.3"

This is not your standard HL2RP experience. This is a unique lore created specifically for Vintage Bean Gaming. Its success and clarity relies on the playerbase and their interactions within it. There are no heroes, there is no resistance, this is the camp of sodom.

AEGIS-IV is a Tier-4 Universal Union labor camp, a far-off location in the middle of the wastelands where citizens are sent at random to fill work quotas and farm natural resources for the Combine. It is a detritus-laden and rather unpleasant place, rife with drugs, alcohol, and sex. There is a rather moderate presence of Metropolice, but not as much as there is within Combine-controlled cities, and as such, it's far more lax on dress codes, law, and general oppression. It is by no means a good or pleasant life, and only subjectively better than a life in city slums.

There is somewhat a general clan-mentality in this camp, as there is a limited population and those who live there have to see one another on a daily basis, whereas in the cities a citizen can simply avoid someone he dislikes (within certain boundaries), in the Drop, everyone knows everybody, and everyone must pull together, and newcomers are usually welcomed with a boot to the head and a beating, to assert their status.

The citizenry usually hails to the biggest and toughest fellow citizen, who in turn hails to the metropolice, as they are the blokes with guns and big sticks.

The citizens occupy their daily lives with work on the oil rigs or thumpers on the outskirts of the base, or scavenging from ruins alongside their brutal Metropolice guards. When not working or scavenging or being pounded into the dirt by metropolice (Or bigger citizens.) citizens usually spend time taking drugs, drinking, gambling with one another, relaxing, and pottering about. They're offered more freedom of movement than those in cities, but on an own-risk basis. Wandering outside the defensive thumper-line unguarded or without orders to is heavily discouraged, but nobody will come smack you down for it. If you can survive the treachery of the desert, you're free to roam as you please.

Metropolice function in a somewhat atypical hierarchy, there are no "02's" or such, there is a small-knit group of three commanders, who command and control the normal metropolice footsoldiers, who are allowed to do as they please for the most part, and are not required to keep any kind of patrol or arrest quota. Law is black and white. If you commit a crime, prepare to pay with your life, as it's unlikely the unit apprehending you will care to take you alive. If he does, consider yourself lucky. If you, in a moment of darkness, kill one of the metropolice; expect to awaken to the sound of a 9mm being unholstered.

The Drop is a shitty place to be, it's overly hot, it's unhygenic, resupply shipments are infrequent and Outer Union support is almost inexistent. If you're a citizen or a metrocop here, the odds are you pissed off someone in command of labor assignments, or have had a blackmark in the past. There are exceptions to this, of course. Some units volunteered to be here, and some citizens were plucked to be here simply at random.

The metropolice look after their own, and for the most part, defend citizens from one another if their assaults and greivances are taking place in broad daylight. Said defense usually involves breaking the bones of whoever the responding unit feels started the argument. This is a true hunter-and-hunted environment.

What all this means in a roleplay context, is that you, on a daily basis, will be free to come and go and do generally as you please as long as it is not majorly disruptive or problematic to the functioning of the camp, or the Metropolice's own agendas. Perma-Kills will be somewhat uncommon, but expect to suffer one if you start regularly causing mayhem. For example: If you cause a big brawl once or twice, you will likely not suffer long-time character repercussions, however, if your character repeatedly causes camp-wide problems, you will likely have to suffer a perma-kill or other repercussions.

This doesn't exclude unlawful activity, infact, it's encouraged to act like an unruly little shit, but to keep it on the down-low. Don't go out and stab a bunch of metrocops, instead, pace yourself and slowly and methodically cause trouble.

Of course, some will take issue with this lore, and view it as "lolwebulry". Not at all. This isn't resistance, this is just a hunter-and-hunted world where your character will have to use their wits and cunning in order to get through the treacherous environs alive. I hope this provides a challenging and interesting change for you, from the norm.

Extra rules:

+ Unique environment, set in a ramshackle UU labor camp.

+ All previous VBG canon didn't happen. This is an "alternate universe".

+ Drugs, alcohol, and sex are all legal, as before.

+ PK'd characters can return!

+ There won't be many events, but there may be changes to the camp structure as RP happens, We intend for the playerbase to change the structure of the world around them.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy the canon.
